Firefighters in Turkey have managed to bring all active forest fires under control. Nearly 30 people are suspected of involvement in starting the fires.

The remaining large-scale forest fires in Turkey have been brought under control, the country’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Ibrahim Yumaklı, said.

“As a result of effective operations from the air and on the ground, the fires in the Çine district of Aydın province, the Susurluk district of Balıkesir province, and the Buca district of İzmir province have been fully brought under control,” Ibrahim Yumaklı said.

The minister also noted that since July 29, in less than a week, a total of 314 wildfires have broken out in Turkey. An aerial fleet consisting of 28 aircraft, 119 helicopters and 14 unmanned aerial vehicles was involved in firefighting efforts. More than 5,000 pieces of equipment were deployed by firefighters on the ground.

According to Justice Minister Akın Gürlek, since June, 29 people have been suspected of deliberately starting fires in 16 provinces.
