In Azerbaijan, 6 tons 223 kg 519.057 g of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances worth 187.2 million manats were seized from illegal circulation from January through July this year.

The State Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and Illicit Drug Trafficking’s Working Group told Report.

Compared with January-July 2025, the volume of other narcotic drugs seized from illegal circulation during the same period in 2026 decreased by 13 kg 395.167 g, or 9.7%.

During the reporting period, 4,963 drug-related crimes were identified as a result of comprehensive operational and investigative measures to combat drug addiction and illicit drug trafficking. Of these, 1,250 cases involved illegal drug trafficking, 3,613 involved the illegal acquisition and possession of drugs, 97 involved the illegal sowing and cultivation of drug-containing plants, and 3 involved other crimes in this category.

As a result of the identified cases, 6 tons 223 kg 519.057 g of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances were seized from illegal circulation. These included 5 tons 307 kg 260.329 g of marijuana, 257 kg 073.146 g of heroin, 124 kg 912.418 g of opium, 247 kg 630.147 g of hashish, 125 kg 541.94 g of other narcotic drugs, and 161 kg 101.077 g of psychotropic substances.

In addition, 34,983 methadone tablets, 12,715 cannabis plants, 29 psychotropic tablets, 4.5 g and 276 units of potent substances, as well as 970.1 g of poisonous substances were discovered and seized.

During the reporting period, with the organization of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the participation of representatives of relevant agencies, 3,960,601 wild-growing drug-containing plants with a total weight of 327 tons 716 kg were identified and destroyed across an area of 1,167.2 hectares.
