Turkish law enforcement authorities have detained the head of Istanbul’s Üsküdar municipality, Sinem Dedetaş, the press service of the prosecutor’s office of the Turkish metropolis reported.

The criminal case is related to alleged corruption activities by Dedetaş. According to investigators, the official received bribes, misappropriated property, and was also involved in the formation of a criminal group.

Searches were conducted at 11 locations. Five other suspects were detained along with Dedetaş.

In total, as part of an anti-corruption investigation, Turkish law enforcement agencies have detained dozens of heads of municipalities across all 81 regions of the country.
