\u201cOne year ago today, President Trump\u00a0secured peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan when he\u00a0hosted\u00a0President Aliyev of\u00a0Azerbaijan\u00a0and Prime Minister Pashinyan of Armenia\u00a0together at the White House\u00a0and\u00a0witnessed\u00a0their signing of\u00a0a historic Joint Declaration.\u00a0\u00a0This declaration ended\u00a0decades of conflict in the South Caucasus and launched\u00a0the\u00a0trailblazing\u00a0Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity \u2014 TRIPP.Over\u00a0the past twelve months, the United States has worked side-by-side with Armenia and Azerbaijan to turn that promise into progress.\u00a0\u00a0The TRIPP \u2013 a\u00a0multimodal transit route that will modernize\u00a0rails, road, energy and digital infrastructure\u00a0\u2013\u00a0is on its way to becoming a reality with engineering surveys\u00a0for the railway\u00a0in Armenia already underway and Azerbaijan\u2019s near completion of a\u00a0highway and railroad to connect into Armenia. Peace\u00a0has\u00a0opened the door to enhanced relationships between the United States,\u00a0Armenia,\u00a0and Azerbaijan that will add to the economic prosperity of all three countries.\u00a0Today, I am pleased to announce that the Trans-Caspian Enterprise Fund is up and running, led by a newly elected board of directors and capitalized with $201 million in U.S. government funding to spur private sector investment across the Trans-Caspian Trade Route (Middle Corridor) in the South Caucasus and Central Asia.<\/p>\n
This progress reflects a simple truth: peace and prosperity reinforce one another.\u00a0\u00a0TRIPP is more than an infrastructure project \u2014 it is a vital link in the Trans-Caspian Trade Route, a driver of commercial opportunities for the\u00a0United States\u00a0and others, and a model for how\u00a0economic cooperation can cement peace\u00a0following the resolution of\u00a0long-standing disputes. The United States remains fully committed to working with Armenia and Azerbaijan as they build on this foundation.
