Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan have signed the Mecca Agreement on Joint Defense, under which an armed attack on any one of the three countries will be treated as an attack on all signatories, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, Report informs.

The agreement was signed on August 7 during a joint defense summit held at Al Safa Palace in Mecca. The document was signed by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to the ministry, the agreement is based on the longstanding historical ties among the three states, shared strategic interests and decades of defense cooperation among the three countries. “Agreement, reflecting the three States’ shared commitment to further strengthening their collective security and to promoting peace, security, and stability in the region and beyond, in pursuit of a secure and prosperous future,” said the MFA statement.

The ministry said the agreement is intended to strengthen collective deterrence against any act of aggression, and stipulates that any armed attack against any one of the three states shall be regarded as an attack against them all. It further provides for the enhancement of all aspects of defence cooperation among the three states.
